My Story
There have been many times over the course of my life where I felt the pull to be a small business owner. Ideas came and went, but as a single mom, I wanted to spend any free time away from my full-time job, raising my daughter; taking her to soccer practice, award ceremonies, or just simply enjoying our time together.
I had many different ideas of entrepreneurship over the years but it wasn't until after my daughter grew into a successful adult of her own, that things began to click for me.
The passion for sustainability began by an unintentional seed planted by a former Manager. He inspired me and opened up my mind and heart on so many levels, including how important it was to take care of people and planet. I will forever be grateful that I was entrusted to help lead an international company to attain the B-Corp Certification. It was an immense amount of work, beyond gratifying, and I learned first hand that a company has a responsibility and the ability to make a meaningful impactful in the world by instilling values that are aligned to caring for people and the planet.
I decided then that when I had the courage to launch it would be a strategic offering and it would be rooted in values of caring for people and the planet. I knew I wanted to become a purpose-driven brand.
The idea of the GoGo Pouch came to me after I got teeth aligners... following a third round of braces and retainers! I would misplace or lose them often when I took them out to eat or drink. My hygienist suggested that the safest place to store them was in my bra! I laughed at the thought, but quickly realized how often I find myself putting cash, a credit card, my ID or keys in my bra when going out, not wanting to be tethered to a purse or bag.
Besides the fact that it felt unsanitary and unsecure, not to mention how embarrassing it was to take your credit card or cash out of your bra and it's sweaty. (there's such a thing as sweaty cash - look up the funny memes!) I knew there had to be a better way.
As I sat with the idea and how I could solve 'my problem', I ended up hearing from many women who were doing the same thing and using their bra to hold their belongings.
The lightbulb went on and the GoGo was created. The original ideas was to repurpose old shirts so we can divert textiles from the landfill. The idea then evolved to using new fabrics sourced in California and occasionally repurposing shirts only if we can source high quality fabrics.
My daughter and I spent weeks thinking of the name and we finally landed on The GoGo Pouch. We created a prototype from an old bandana and off we went to create this business! We knew we had an idea with pursuing and were excited that we had an opportunity to use our business as a force for good.
It takes a village and lots of amazing friends. The first real prototype came to life through a dear friend, Jeanne, who is an amazing quilter. She brought our idea to life with her master skills and we haven't looked back since.
It's been such a joy to create this product on so many levels. It's pure joy to ideate with my daughter and to know that we designed a purposeful product that provides an income opportunity for the seamstress' and every purchase impacts people and planet by benefitting two non-profits that I care about.
Thank YOU for supporting my small business and being part of making a difference in the world.
I hope you enjoy your GoGo Pouch at the beach, the club, yoga, dining out, hiking, biking, walking, traveling or whatever life's adventures are waiting for you.
You're now part of the #life untethered movement.
